This summer I was taken on my first camping trip since guide camp - probably 15 years ago. And I am happy to say it was a much more pleasant experience!
John, in his role as experienced camper, sorted out everything we needed to take with us and gave me a list of what I needed to pack. What a star! He picked me up and we excitedly headed on our way in Rufus!
We made it to Gloucestershire and the booked up our spot at the
campsite with the view. Then is was time for putting up the tent... in the drizzle!
In the tent - what a view!
We spent a fair bit of time watching the 'home-from-homes' putting up their tent. They really didn't have a good camping experience and were gone when we woke the following morning!
It was a 'leave no trace' campsite and the facilities were... basic! I had to draw on my Ghana expertise when using the toilet. And I was yet again grateful for my camel bladder! The showers were a hose with a foot pump but we didn't have the effort to light the fire in the morning to warm the water. Only for one night!
Shopping at the organic shop for a 'Ludmila' meal. Very entertained by the shape of the vegetables!
Using our hired brazier - it's time for man to make fire. The rain outside caused us much worry, and maybe it wasn't the wisest thing to start the fire inside the tent and keep it so close to the entry way... but we got away with it and it was very exciting!
Contemplating the morning roll. What a cute photo!
On the way through the woods back to the shop for lunch on the last day. What a meal and a half!
Happy camping times! Thank you John.
Why is it called a Dutch barn?...
